Skagway Overlook - Skagway, Alaska

For stunning views over Skagway and its environs, take a scenic drive along the road to Dyea and follow the turnoff to the Overlook.

The viewing platform at the Skagway Overlook takes in the town of Skagway, waterways and surrounding peaks dusted with snow.

Bring your camera and set it to panoramic to capture wide-angle shots of the Skagway River, and inlets and waterways like neighboring Smugglers Cove.

Tours heading to the White Pass summit take time so visitors can appreciate the views over Skagway from the Overlook observation platform.

Freedom Trail - Boston, Massachusetts

The Freedom Trail is a great way to explore Boston’s most popular sites. The 2 ½-mile/4-km trail itself links a number of historic sites, many associated with colonial United States history.

The route is marked with a line of red paint or red brick on the sidewalk; markers identify stops and plaques point the way from one sight to the next. The Freedom Trail starts on the Boston Common and visits sights on Beacon Hill, in Downtown, near the Waterfront, and in the North End, before crossing the bridge and ending in Charlestown.

As such, it provides an introduction to some of Boston’s distinct neighborhoods, as well as its rich history. Along the way, you’ll see the King’s Chapel, Old City Hall, and the Old Corner Bookstore. You’ll visit Faneuil Hall, which is a choice spot to stop for a lunch from the food court in Quincy Market. More sites include Old North Church, Copp’s Hill Burying Ground (with its grand views across the river to Charlestown) and the USS Constitution Museum, home

Seward Highway, Alaska

Extending 125 miles (201 kilometers) from Seward to Anchorage, the Seward Highway runs through scenic areas like the Kenai Peninsula, Chugach National Forest, Turnagain Arm and Kenai Mountains.

In fact, in 1989 the Seward Highway was declared a National Scenic Byway by the U.S. Forest Service, meaning it’s a destination all on its own.

What’s really fascinating about the drive is that as you continue along the road the landscape completely changes. While at one point you might be immersed in rugged peaks and alpine meadows at another you may find yourself enjoying views of majestic fjords, retreating glaciers and mirror lakes.

One could easily do the drive in a few hours; however, it’s recommended to spend at least three days exploring the route as there are a range of experiences to have along the way.

Apache Trail - Phoenix, Ariona

Apache Trail is a 120 mile (193km) historic road that connects Apache Junction (the east edge of the Phoenix metropolitan area) to Theodore Roosevelt Lake. Although the trail’s official name today is “State Route 88”, it adopted the name “Apache Trail” in reference to the Apache Indians who originally inhabited the Superstition Mountains.

The road was initially built as a way to open copper trade between the city of Globe and the Phoenix area. Today, however, it has become a very popular tourist destination. Winding through the Superstition Mountains, this circular road provides some of the most beautiful scenic views in central Arizona. It guides you up and down the steep desert mountains, past cliff dwellings, lake shores, eroded canyons, and old mining towns.

In addition to simply enjoying the beautiful scenery, many travelers choose to stop and explore the various historic treasures along the way.
